I have been having quite a few students come up to me seeking extra copies of work they did not turn in. For some students, this is the third or fourth time they have asked for a copy of the assignment. Beginning with the next quarter, I will no longer run extra copies for students. They will be posted up either here or under the Assignments and Resources tab where they can be printed off either at home or from the Media Center during Homeroom. We are trying to increase responsibility and accountability in preparation for seventh grade. With that being said, I will attach some of the most commonly missed assignments here so that they can easily be accessed before Friday. These are the Stations Packet and the pages/numbers for the Book Work. We will be having a quiz at the end of this week that will count as a MAJOR grade on the relationship between the Earth, Moon, and Sun. Grades close for students this Friday, and all grades will be entered into PowerSchools by next Wednesday.

We have started the next unit on Space! We are studying the relationship between the Earth, Moon, and Sun. First we have started with the phases of the moon. We watched a great video on BrainPop (Check it out! Just sign in with the WMS username/password and search "Moon Phases"!). We took notes from the video that should be in your child's science notebook. I have also posted the PowerPoint presentations for the Moon Phases and the Earth's tilt under the Assignments and Resources tab for some extra help. There's also a pretty interesting article from DiscoveryEd about the phases of the moon posted with those presentations.
I have finally gotten through the mountain of late work that was turned in before the end of last week. Please understand that students are continuing to turn in late work to me each day, and current work and lesson plans are my top priority. Late work is not penalized and I will continue to take it through the end of the quarter (which is rapidly approaching), but it will take me longer to get to than if it was turned in on time. Anything that was missing before last Friday has been entered, and any grades that were still missing have been recorded as a zero. Please check your child's grades in PowerSchool and ensure that any missing items are turned in as soon as possible. Thank you.
We will be having a quiz this Friday about Soil, Rocks, and the Environment. Students have a Soil Booklet they have been working in that they can use to help them study as well as a sheet that they filled out today and we will be discussing tomorrow. I have also added some extra articles to the Assignments and Resources tab that we are using in class today that will help as well.
Interims will go home Wednesday this week. Please be sure to sign and send back ASAP. If you would like to have a conference, please make sure that you e-mail one of the core teachers or send a note to the homeroom teacher on the interim. We will try to schedule your conference ASAP, but there may be a slight delay as we already had a pretty full schedule and are now behind due to the snow days.
As far as science class goes, here are some questions that we are going over in class this week that you can ask your child to see what we have been learning... 1. What factors determine the kind of soil that will form in an area? 2. How are different organisms important for our soil? 3. What three factors determine the rate of weathering? 4. If you had to choose one of the four world areas to start a farm, where would it be and why? 5. What are the soil horizons? Give a brief description of each. 6. What are the different properties of soil? Explain each. 7. What are the two main types of weathering? Give examples of each. |
