Hello!
Background:
I was born and raised in West Virginia. I love my home state! My entire family still lives in WV, so I make frequent trips back (especially during football season-- go 'Eers!). I have lived in NC for a little over three years now, but I am loving everything that Raleigh has to offer. Science has always been a passion of mine. In my spare time (that exists?), I enjoy reading, painting, hiking practicing yoga, and when it is warm, water-skiing.
Education:
I attended West Virginia University, where I received my Master's degree in Elementary Education with a specialization in Middle School Science. I was part of the Benedum Collaborative program, which was a 5-year Master's program where most of my projects were completed within a classroom setting. We were placed in different classrooms for an increasing amount of time over the course of five semesters. I conducted my thesis work in a fifth grade classroom, where I studied the effectiveness of alternative assessment methods. Although my degree is in elementary education, I fell in love with my middle school placement. Now I am here! :)
This is my fourth year teaching, but first at Pine Hollow Middle. I have taught 6th science since I started teaching. To align with 21st Century Learning Skills, I really like to incorporate hands-on work and group work in my classroom. We will do a project for almost every unit this year. Students will not typically have graded homework, but will also be asked to complete class work at home if not finished by class end. I will have high expectations of your child.
