First off, I just want congratulate all of my students on a job well done last semester! We handled the Benchmark yesterday with ease, and I can't wait to see the scores because I just know that we will have seen improvement from last time. :)
Now, we have jumped feet first into this new unit, Land Beneath Our Feet. We are starting off with vocabulary stations where we are making some type of fun project to define our vocabulary words. This will be our first minor grade. It will be due next Tuesday. I have kept all of the projects tonight (because I'm not sure we know exactly what is expected of us enough to send them home yet) but they will have the option to bring them home tomorrow and work on them over the weekend. I have posted the entire directions sheet, videos, and more articles that we are using to the Assignments and Resources tab, so check them out! If you'd really like to get ahead of the game, or feel that you need a little extra practice, BrainPop and Discovery Education are great resources to use, and your child already has free access to them through WCPSS! If you cannot remember the log-in information, just send me an e-mail and I can get it to you ASAP.

We are completely finished with Semester 1 and about to begin the "Land Beneath Our Feet" Unit. I will be posting resources for this new unit under the Assignments and Resources tab throughout the week if you'd like to get ahead, as well as updating the Curriculum Map and Objectives tab under "More.." if you'd like a better understanding of what we are supposed to be learning. :)
Grades are currently being updated and finalized for Q2/S1. Test grades may be changing throughout the day as credit for the test corrections are added. Some students may also notice that test grades and quiz grades may increase as the extra credit they have accrued over the course of this quarter is added as well. I will try to make sure that all extra credit is applied so that it has the most substantial impact on their grade so that they get the most benefit (it will be added to majors before minors). If you have any questions about this quarter's grades, please feel free to contact me. The grades can no longer be changed for this quarter, but I would be glad to answer any questions you have or discuss what we can do for next semester to help your child succeed.
Hope you are all enjoying this long weekend! :) Just a friendly reminder that our unit test is tomorrow! We have been reviewing all week for this one. Students will be able to complete corrections worth half the credit of the original problem. These corrections will be due next Wednesday, January 14th. ALL MISSING WORK IS DUE THAT DAY!!! The quarter ends next Friday, January 16th and our benchmark will be on Wednesday, January 21st.
On another note, our CIA have become engineers! Over the next few weeks, we will be working on some building projects. We could really use the following donations, if at all possible: -straws -shoe boxes -toothpicks -masking tape -any other "building supplies" you may have at home! Thank you! :) |
