This week we having been wrapping up our objective about photosynthesis, cellular respiration, and transpiration. The past two days our students were busy creating vocabulary posters with their groups. They turned out excellent, and they really helped us grasp those difficult concepts! Today we finished this objective by adding a few more notes about transpiration to our notebooks and were assigned an article and comprehension questions. This will be due on Monday. See attachment below if you need a new copy of this assignment! Also, check out the videos that I have posted under the "Assignments & Resources" tab for a great review of what we're doing in class! Homework: Article "Photosynthesis: Making Energy" article and comprehension questions due on MONDAY 5/4!

Yesterday we reviewed the plants parts and functions and began taking notes about Photosynthesis using BrainPop videos on the iPads. Your child should have two notes sheets glued into their science notebooks if you'd like to check out what we're learning. Today, we read an article and started a foldable in our notebooks to help us better understand how each of the plant parts play a role in the processes of photosynthesis, respiration, and transpiration. We will be having a vocabulary quiz this Friday 4/24 based on the vocabulary we have been talking about this past week. Just a reminder that we will also be taking our field trip this Thursday!
Vocabulary: glucose, H2O, Chlorophyll, Chloroplast, Xylem, Photosynthesis, Sunlight (Solar Energy), CO2, Phloem, Oxygen, Stomata, and Cellular Respiration, mitochondria By request from students who came into class late or had to leave early, here is the information you will need to study for the quiz tomorrow...
We just got the okay today to get flowers for a dissection on Friday (e-mail me if you'd like to join!), which means our quiz will be TOMORROW! Again, students will be required to label the parts of a flower and match them to their functions.
Thanks to Mr. West, my computer's PowerSchools Gradebook is back up and running! Grades will be updated over the next 24 hours! :)
Yesterday and today we have the iPads! All classes are to complete each of the following activities before the end of today: - Take notes then complete a quiz on the website below "Woodlands Junior School Interactive Plants Quiz." - This was taken for a minor grade! - Complete DiscoveryEd activity "Build a Plant" and take notes about each plant part. - Read the attached article "Getting to Know Plants" and complete the comprehension questions at the end of the article. **IF STUDENTS DO NOT FINISH IN CLASS, THIS NEEDS TO BE COMPLETED FOR HOMEWORK!** - Add a flower diagram (see attachment below) to your notebook and label as much as possible. We will complete this tomorrow when we go over the Plants PowerPoint (see the button on the assignments and resources tab) as a class.
Mr. West is helping me to resolve my GradeBook issues. Currently, it still will not work on my computer. I can, however, update them using the desk tops in my classroom. I will be working to make sure that grades are updated ASAP. Because I can only do this during school hours until my laptop is fixed, you can expect grades to be updated by the end of the day Wednesday, as I have meetings after school and during my planning period tomorrow and Wednesday. I apologize for the delay in posting grades. Hopefully the problem is corrected soon! Thank you for your patience. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
I apologize for the inconvenience but my online grade book is not working at the moment. As soon as I figure out the problem, grades will be updated for this quarter. So far we have one major and two homework grades for this quarter. These will be put it as soon as I get the problem fixed! Thank you for your patience!
We have quite the celebration to share! As we were taking the benchmark today, I quickly counted how many study guides were turned in and we had ALL OF THEM (minus the ones that were absent, of course!). Yes, you read that right. 100% rate of completion for first core. I was so excited that I did a happy dance, and am very proud of everyone for starting this quarter off the right way. Keep up the good work guys!!! :)
Also, report cards go home today! Make sure to check your child's grades and read over the paper that was sent home concerning grading for this quarter. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me! Just a quick friendly reminder that we are taking our Q3 Benchmark tomorrow. It will be covering the Layers of the Earth, Soil, and Space. Students were given a study guide on Monday and have been given the entire period over the past few days to complete it. The study guide is serving as our unit test for the information that is covered in the benchmark. It will be graded as a MAJOR (so it is essentially an open-book, open-note test) that is due TOMORROW. Most students have gotten the study guide finished during the two days that they have worked on it, and have had the opportunity to ask for help with answers that they were unsure of during our class discussion. If they are not finished with the assignment by the end of class today, they will need to finish it at home or it will negatively impact their grade. Please check you child's agenda to see if they have completed the study guide and review the material with them tonight. I have a good feeling about tomorrow's benchmark--from what I have seen we are prepared despite the shortened time last quarter! :)
