Today we continued our discussion of the eyes with a video about why we cry and the three different types of tears. We will continue that discussion when we come back from break. I have uploaded the videos that we have been using in class the past few days to the Assignments & Resources tab, including the video about tears that we watched today. We also took a vocabulary quiz and got our extra credit assignment today as well. I will upload a copy of that to the Assignments and Resources tab shortly.
EXTRA CREDIT: Each task in the packet is worth 1% extra credit for a total of 10% possible that can be used toward a formative or minor grade. In order to get that 1%, it must be complete and all answers must be correct. Even one incorrect answer on an entire page will keep from getting the 1%. (So it is all or nothing; extra credit = extra effort.) All open-ended questions must be answered in complete sentences. This assignment must be turned in on Monday to be accepted. Late submissions for extra credit will not be accepted. GRADES: Interims will be coming out shortly. Everything that has been turned into me has been updated in PS today. Please check to make sure that you are not missing any work, and if you are, get it turned in ASAP. DISSECTION: I am still in need of parent volunteers for the cow's eye dissection. If you would like to volunteer, please e-mail me and contact the school to make sure that you have a background check on file. I have sent an informational sheet home with your student today. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! :)

Just a reminder, there will be a vocabulary quiz tomorrow with words taken from this entire unit thus far. Please help your child study for this quiz tonight.
Also, the homework packet will be sent home tomorrow. Again, this is for extra credit. It must be turned in at the start of class on Monday, Dec 1st to be accepted for credit. If your child is absent this week, this assignment will be posted to the Assignments & Resources tab, as well as the videos and things that we have been doing in class. Today we are filling out a diagram of the eye and taking notes on the vocabulary from the BrainPop video "Eyes." To view this video, simply go to BrainPop.com and login with the username: wmswolves and password: 3409. Then search for the video "Eyes." It is short and simple. The eye diagram we've added to our notes can also be found in the Assignments & Resources tab. We are also talking about the first two-three extension activities if you'd like to check those out as well. :) ***WE ARE STILL IN NEED OF PARENT VOLUNTEERS FOR THE DISSECTION ON WED DEC 3rd!!!*** We are in need of some things for our classroom! If you are able to donate any of the following items to our cause, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for all you do to support our students. :)
- colored pencil sharpener - loose notebook paper - tissues - the VERY LARGE (like 2ft long) pencils- mine have all been stolen, even when I put flags with my name on them. Maybe these ones will be more noticeable that they are taken from my class. :) This week's homework is short & sweet. Many students were able to get it finished after they turned in their quiz today. It is a very brief article with a few questions and will be uploaded to the resources tab shortly. This is due on Friday. For next week, I will be sending home a homework packet that can be done as extra credit. It must be turned in the Monday following break to be counted for credit. I have encouraged all students to check their grades and consider how well they have been doing on quizzes and tests to determine if they should choose to complete the extra credit. The tests in my class are very difficult, so I would advise that everyone take the opportunity to earn some extra credit, as this will probably not be offered again this quarter.
We need parent volunteers with a strong stomach! We are going to be doing our cow eye dissection the week following Thanksgiving break. (Tentatively Dec 2nd) If you would like to help us with this lab, please send me an e-mail at [email protected]. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! :)
The new homework assignment has been posted for this week under the Assignments & Resources tab. Again, we are now doing weekly homework that will be due every Friday in place of the Bell Ringer check. We still do Bell Ringers, it is just checked at random now instead of weekly. We are also continuing with weekly quizzes. Because our projects will likely be wrapping up on Friday, we will push this week's quiz to Monday (or whenever we get finished with our presentations-some classes are ahead of others). I apologize, I was sick this weekend and did not get much done other than planning and sleeping, but I will get caught up with all grades by Wednesday evening. Please check PS Wednesday night to make sure your child has all work for this quarter turned in thus far.
We received our first weekly homework assignment today. Just like in math and ELA, students will now have a weekly homework assignment for me that will be due every Friday. This week, we are reading an article about Electromagnetic Waves. By Friday, your child should have the following items complete:
1. Read & underline the entire article, then circle/box/highlight vocabulary words (20pts) 2. Complete the WORD grid boxes (20pts) 3. List the 5 Most Important Words & define them (20pts) 4. List the 5 Most Important Facts/Ideas in complete sentences (20pts) 5. Write a 2-paragraph summary of the article using at least two of the Important Words & Facts (20pts) |
TUTORING:
Extra help is available every Tuesday from 3:30-4:30. Please remember that you MUST fill out a permission form (below) and turn it in the day before in order to attend.
Volunteer? For some of our projects this year, I will be asking for parent volunteers. If you already know that you would like to volunteer in the future, please contact me. Otherwise, the need for parent volunteers will be included in the weekly update. Thank you! :) Archives
