1. I had to postpone the test that was scheduled for this past Monday. For any major assessment we take, we have to have access to the testing lab for some of our students. Unfortunately, this resource gets booked way in advance. I could not get it again until January 25th. The projects were still DUE TODAY. If your child did not turn a project in today, they will take the test ont he 25th.
2. BIOME PROJECTS: We started group research projects today. Students were encouraged to pick their own groups and their own responsibilities within the group. The last day for in-class research is Wednesday, January 18th. Presentations will start on the following Monday, the 23rd. Please see the resources below to help your child find valuable information for their presentation. Discovery Education is a great place to start looking! One awesome feature is that they include completed citations for a lot of their resources. WE DO HAVE TO CITE OUR SOURCES IN 6TH GRADE!
Yes, your child does have homework! They need to conduct research at home for this project. They will also need to memorize their speech for the presentation!
Students requested that I post the answers to the review activity that we did in class today. They are attached below. Reviewing this sheet as well as the information from the previous post will help to prepare your child for the test Monday. Have a safe, happy, snowy weekend! :)
Hello all! Hope you had a wonderful break! This week we are talking about food chains/webs and the energy pyramid. The note sheets that we have used and one of the websites is linked below. The video we used for our notes on the energy pyramid is from BrainPop. Just sign in and search "Energy Pyramid" and it will come up. If you forget how to log in, just send me an e-mail and I'll tell you how.
We are also having our FINAL Tic Tac Toe this coming Monday! If your child is doing a project, PLEASE review the rubric with them before allowing them to turn it in! If they are not, please review the study guide with them to help prepare for the test. The study guide was given out in class Tuesday and we are going over answers at the end of class each day. Because we are going over the answers together, I will not be posting the answer key online. The test is 25 questions, so please make sure that your child knows all of the key ideas that are covered in the study guide; do not just memorize all of the facts on the page. If you have any questions, just let me know!
For some of our projects this year, I will be asking for parent volunteers. If you already know that you would like to volunteer in the future, please contact me. Otherwise, the need for parent volunteers will be included in the weekly update. Thank you! :)
