Grades will be updated by the end of this week. All grades will be entered for this final quarter by the end of next week.
We are finishing up our presentation on biomes this week. Presentations will be Thursday and Friday of this week and will be at random, so everyone needs to be prepared to present on Thursday. Many students got started on the posters yesterday and should get finished with them today. Outside of school, your child should be practicing their speaking part of the presentation. Their parts need to be memorized, and should take them around one minute to say. If your child chooses to present with notecards, two points will be deducted from the group presentation grade. Please practice with them at home! :)

The research for the biomes project is DUE FRIDAY MAY 15th. Next week we will be working on the presentation and posters, so research must be completed by the end of this week. I will be checking for research in class on Friday. For this part of their grade, I will be looking for the following things:
We have discussed all of these components in class on several occasions. This due date should have been recorded at the top of your child's Biomes Project guide sheet. We will be presenting at the end of next week. Check out the Webmix below for some resources to help you with your biomes research!
Today we are beginning our research for our biomes project. This is a two-week long project that will end with group presentations. Please see the attached guide sheet for more details. Students will be getting both a MINOR and MAJOR grade for this project. I will be adding resources to the Assignments and Resources page that your child can use to continue their research at home. Please make sure that they are keeping track of where they get their information, as they are required to cite their sources.
This week we are wrapping up our objective about the transfer of energy through the food webs and energy pyramid. Today students read a passage in their textbooks, took notes, and answered some of the comprehension questions that will be counted as a MINOR grade. Many students did not finish today and will be given some time to complete in class tomorrow. After the book work is completed, we will begin our MAJOR assessment for this section-- a RAFT writing assignment. See the attached PowerPoint for more information. We will work in class Tuesday and Wednesday on this "test." If students do not get finished during class time, they will need to take it home Wednesday, as it will be due at the beginning of class on Thursday.
Yesterday we started talking about food chains, webs, and pyramids. We used the attached PowerPoint and website to get our notes about each of these different things. It seemed like most of the students remembered this from last year, which is good! We will be continuing with these notes today as we watch a Bill Nye video and the BrainPop video: Energy Pyramids. Find the Bill Nye video in the Assignments and Resources section, and of course, your child already has access to BrainPop so feel free to go there and review the video with them! (They will need the school login information.) Have a good weekend! Don't forget--the homework is DUE Monday!
