We are in need of the following items for upcoming projects, ASAP! If you are willing and able, please send in the following items this week:
1. Graham Crackers 2. Vanilla Icing (red if possible) 3. Newspapers Thank you so much for your support! The first two are for a lab I'd like to do on Friday this week to learn more about plate tectonics and the newspapers are for a project during Flight School. Thanks again! :)

Here is your first assignment from my website! Use the presentation below to complete the following tasks: 1) Pick 3-4 Vocabulary Words from the presentation to fill in a vocabulary sheet. 2) Work with a partner to fill in the guided notes sheet using the presentation below. 3) Find another set of partners to build a model of the Earth with!
Attached are my answer key and pictures of the vocabulary posters. We are having a MINOR (quiz) tomorrow on the Layers of the Earth. Please make sure that your child has their notes complete and help them make sure they have the correct information from the key below so that they can study tonight.
I have to brag on our students for a moment. They are transitioning to middle school so smoothly! It may feel a bit rough to you, but this is the best I have ever seen so far! We have been working in groups to learn about the layers of the Earth and, for the most part, students have done an EXCELLENT job managing their work within their groups. Nice job facilitators! If you want to check up on what they're doing in class, simply have them log into Google Classroom and they should be able to tell you about one of the layers of the Earth. Tomorrow they will be responsible for teaching their layer to the rest of their group. Tutoring will start next week! I will explain it to students on Friday after their MINOR (quiz), but wanted to go ahead and put up the form. It is attached below. Please make sure to read the entire thing before sending it in. If you would like your child to attend, I will need to have the form turned in on Monday. The form will always be due the day before the tutoring session.
There were a few students absent last Friday, causing them to miss our first MAJOR. I talked with these students today to give them their make-up work. This should be completed by Friday. Thank you for your patience with this. I was hoping there would be a way to have them complete the same lab at school, but couldn't get it to work out. First, they need to log on to DiscoveryEd. Once on this website, in the top search bar, they need to type "One Tomato Two Tomato." This will take them to a virtual lab. They are to complete the virtual lab on the website in order to answer the post-lab questions about the scientific method. They will turn in the post-lab for their grade. Many of my students have homework due tomorrow. If your child was present Friday for the lab, the Post-Lab sheet is due tomorrow. This is for a MAJOR grade. If your child turns it in on Wednesday, 5% will be deducted from their score. If it is turned in Thursday or Friday, 10% will be deducted from their overall score.
Most students did not get our class work complete today either and need to finish for homework. We completed a pre-assessment for our next unit- Land Beneath Our Feet. This is not for a grade, but it is important for your child to be able to track their progress. At the end of this assessment, we created our first "study guide!" Your child should have written down in the Notes section of their binder: 1) The question number that they got wrong, 2) The entire question beside the question number, and 3) the entire correct answer beneath the question. This way they can easily begin to review at home! If this was not completed during class, it is to be completed at home and ready for tomorrow. Your child was given the opportunity to work during lunch if they have me before lunch. Only a few took this opportunity. If your child was absent today, they can complete this work at home! Once they log into Google Classroom, they need to hit the "+" sign in the top right corner to add my class. The class codes are different for each class and are listed below. Once they have joined my class, there is a link to the pre-assessment. They will hit submit once finished. This is a pre-assessment, so none of this information has been learned in my class yet. Low grades are not only expected, but welcome. We will be focusing and learning from those mistakes! :) Core 1, 2nd period: uyx8gir Core 2, 3rd period: q52ds7u Core 3, 5th period: gk4yn0q Core 4: 6th period: 3k9u32 Happy Friday everyone! We completed our first lab today. It will be counted as a MAJOR grade. Your child should have BOTH a completed lab sheet, with all of their data, and a post-lab sheet that they did not yet start. If your child was absent today or lost their sheet and you are able to complete the experiment at home... go for it! I have attached the sheets they need below. They will need to refer back to their notes for help in answering some of the questions of the post-lab. Whatever they did not get finished in class needs to be finished at home. Important note: If you are trying at home and your child was not in class (or not paying attention), we used one generic soap brand (I picked all up them up at the dollar store) and two name brand soaps. We used the generic as our control and compared the other two to it so see if they really are worth the price. **Before your child begins, make sure they write a quantifiable hypothesis. This means that it can actually be measured once the data is collected. For example, instead of saying "I think the name brand soap will make better bubbles than the generic brand," say "I think that the name brand soap will make bubbles two times as large as the generic soap bubbles."**
We finished up our notes on the scientific method and lab basics today and are ready for our first lab tomorrow! The attachments below have the notes that were missed as well as the presentation we used to fill them in. Some students had trouble keeping up during class. Please review the notes with your child to make sure that they have everything they need.
Before we get to the Land Beneath Our Feet Unit, we have to know the steps to the scientific method in order to conduct experiments in the future. Please review our notes with your child each night this week so that they are familiar with them by the end of this week. The lab at the end of this week will be counted as the assessment for their understanding of the scientific method and will be counted as a MAJOR grade.
Students will have a safety quiz on Monday. Students must get a passing grade on the safety quiz in order to participate in labs. The quiz will be based on the Safety Contract.
