Use the link below to keep up with what we're doing in class these last three weeks of school!

It is that time of our children's lives. Middle School and peer pressure sometimes combine to cause children to make unsound choices on social media. As someone who loves all of your children and wants them all to be safe and happy, I ask that you please check your child's text messages and social media accounts regularly. Beside the damage they could be doing to another child psychologically, if they are doing something inappropriate on social media they will also face serious consequences at school even if the post/text/snap did not occur during school hours. If it is inappropriate and brought to our attention by a student or parent, it could become something that involves consequences at school. Multiple incidents have been brought to the attention of our team just today. It is increasing in frequency and probably will continue to do so throughout middle and high school, unfortunately.
Please help to make sure all of our students feel comfortable, safe, and included in school by checking that your child is behaving appropriately on their device outside of school. Encourage your child to do the right thing and report anything they see that is not right, whether it is bullying behavior or adult content that's not appropriate for children. Thank you. Tomorrow we are starting our Space Invaders! Unit. Use the link below to follow along with what we are doing in class. The slides include an abbreviated agenda, links to resources used in class, the current objective we are working on and the homework (with due dates). This unit will go quickly due to the timing of the end of year exams, but we will continue to expand on the space unit after the exams are over as well.
The unit test will be Thursday, May 10th. Today we started our Waves Unit. It will be split by our track-out: these three weeks before and the first three weeks when we return. Please use the link below to follow along with what we are doing in class each day, and let me know if you have any questions about any assignments or any suggestions for how to improve the presentation. Keep in mind- it is a "living" document and will be continuously changed/updated as needed for our students.
I WILL BE IN NEED OF PARENT VOLUNTEERS FOR OUR COW EYE DISSECTION THE FIRST WEEK OF APRIL! PLEASE E-MAIL ME IF YOU ARE INTERESTED! :) Wow, this has been a crazy start to our semester! Sorry for the lack of communication via this website, there's just been a lot of changes being made due to our ever-changing schedule. Hopefully it will settle down a bit now so that we can get back in a routine!
I have created a new resource for parents to check out that will hopefully make it a little easier for you all to stay up-to-date in my class without feeling like you need to check one million different places! The link below will take you to the slideshow that I have started using in my classroom. It has a brief explanation of what we are doing for the day, the objective we are working on, and due dates for homework. I hope this will make it easier for you! Because it is a link to Google, it is the only link you will need AND you get to see it updated in real time. You can also look ahead in the week to get an idea of what's coming up in case you know your child will be absent or if they want to get an idea of any assignments that are coming up. I have not used anything like this before for parents, so I would LOVE to hear your feedback! I am doing this for YOU, so if you think there is anything that needs changed or if you would like information added, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate your requests. Thank you! Hello! As mentioned before, this next unit is one of the most difficult for many students. Because of this, I have included below some resources for your child to preview in order to get a foundation if you would like. This is in no way required! Feel free to pick and choose which videos/objectives you feel you need the most. BrainPop- UN: pinehollowmid PW: bpop DiscoveryEd- UN: wcpstudentnumber PW:studentnumber
Objective: 6.P.2.1- Recognize that all matter is made up of atoms and atoms of the same element are alike, but are different from the atoms of other elements. Objective: 6.P.2.2- Explain the effect of heat on the motion of atoms through a description of what happens to particles during a change in phase. Objective: 6.P.2.3- Compare the physical properties of pure substances that are independent of the amount of matter present including density, melting point, boiling point, and solubility to properties that are dependent on the amount of matter present to include volume, mass, and weight.
Grades: I have FINALLY completed and entered all hunger game projects in PowerSchool. I just want to say how much I appreciate your patience with this! There were a lot of components to cover. Students got the hard copy of their rubrics back today as well as their pictures. Many students either forgot to share documents with me in Google or forgot to put their name on things. If you see on their rubric that something is missing, please have them get it to me by Friday. There will be no late deduction for this.
Presentations started today. Due to the large crowd of anxious students this morning, I gave students an extra minute for their presentation. If your child did not present today, please review their slide show with them tonight to make sure they have all parts of the rubric covered. Students also have to complete two different peer evaluations during presentations as well. This will be the last grade of the quarter. Upcoming Track-Out: I just wanted to give a heads up that our next unit, "What's the Matter?" is probably the most difficult unit in 6th grade science for most students. During my workday Monday, I will be posting the objectives and review materials if you would like to front-load with your student in order to better prepare them for next quarter. This is not required and will not be taken as a grade or extra credit. These will just be some extra materials that can be used to give your child a head start for the next unit. If you have any questions, feel free to send me an e-mail! Otherwise, have an excellent track-out! :) Only a few weeks left until track out, and we have a lot to do! Just a reminder, we have a field trip coming up next Monday! We will be sending home more information about our trip this week.
In science, we will also be starting our next Major this week. It will be a research project. This will not be due until we are back from Thanksgiving break. Students will be getting their directions packets on Wednesday and we will be in the LLC to conduct research Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week. Students will have a "pop quiz" minor this week that will cover their notes on the food chains, food webs, and energy pyramid. If they have misplaced their notes, have them review the videos linked in Google Classroom. We are in the home stretch! Make sure that we are finishing strong by continuing to review notes nightly and keeping caught up with our work. YAY! We have sprouts! This means we are ready for the next step of our project. Our students have carefully put together a supply list of things we will need for the rest of our project. Please take a look at the list and see if there is anything you are able to donate. You do not have to buy from Amazon, but we do need to make sure that we have the exact same product that is listed on our Wish List. Our students spent a lot of time making sure that we picked the best product, and can explain to you why we can't have different brands. :) Click the link below to check out our wish list. We have a major coming up this Wednesday, Oct. 25th. It will be multiple choice and will cover everything we have learned about plants so far: parts, functions, and processes. I have attached the study guide answer key below. Please make sure that your child is reviewing our class notes in addition to the study guide. The attached sheet is meant to be a guide for studying and does not cover every single concept we have discussed in class.
We will be having our first major of the unit next Wednesday, 10/25. Students will be getting a study guide in class on Monday. This multiple choice test will cover plant parts and their functions and processes.
Topics to review: plant parts/functions quiz, photosynthesis, cellular respiration, & transpiration notes |
